It’s National Volunteer Week and Community Banking Month. As a community bank, we believe in giving back and volunteering in our shared community. Here are some ways we lend a helping hand.
A Heart for Giving and Volunteer Service
In 2020:
- Staff members contributed 670 volunteer hours to 15 community organizations with three staff members serving as volunteer leaders for one or more organizations.
- Supported our local United Way by contributing $1,849 through the 2020/2021 Employee Giving Campaign.
- The Bank financially supported 58 community organizations through donations, sponsorships and program book advertising.
- The Bank launched a special initiative---FCB Helping Hands---during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing nearly 1,300 meals prepared by three restaurants that are customers which were then distributed to people in need through three local community organizations. Staff members and Directors personally contributed to this effort, which supplemented the Bank’s overall commitment to assist those in need within our local communities

Community Organization: Frederick Community College (FCC) Foundation
Volunteer Leadership: Board Member since 2011 and current Treasurer
“I joined the FCC Foundation board shortly after graduating from the University of Maryland. It has been a great privilege and has afforded me the opportunity to meet the most amazing people and forge new friendships at the college and in the community. There is no greater satisfaction then listening to students tell their personal stories about how they were able to achieve their goals and dreams with the assistance of the college and its many resources. Through this experience, I’ve learned that everyone can make a difference.” – Justin Ramsburg

Community Organizations: For many years, Linda has served as an active member, volunteer and volunteer leader with a number of community organizations including Downtown Frederick Partnership, Frederick Arts Council, Frederick County Commission for Women, Heritage Frederick, Hood College, Order of the Good Samaritan at Frederick Health, Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, United Way of Frederick County, Weinberg Center for the Arts, Inc., and Women's Giving Circle of Frederick County.
Volunteer Leadership: Currently serving as a Board Member and Chair of the Nominating Committee for the Frederick Arts Council and as the Chair of the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County.
“I have been living in Frederick for more than 16 years and enjoy joining like-minded individuals in a particular cause to help move the organization and their mission forward. I believe serving my community in this way broadens my knowledge and provides so many opportunities to meet others who share my interests. I believe if you are going to donate your time, you should enjoy working with the organization and believe in the goals of that organization. The Frederick Arts Council serves the needs of artists, public art and grants in Frederick County. This organization works closely with the Maryland Arts Council, so it has a larger and broader impact throughout the county. This aspect is important to me.” – Linda Roth
FCB Bank Support: The Bank has supported many of the organizations mentioned above through donations and sponsorships including the Frederick Arts Council to assist with the new building.

Community Organizations: Girls on the Run of Mid and Western Maryland, Maryland Bankers Association (MBA) Council for Professional Women in Banking and Finance, and Frederick Health Development Council
Volunteer Leadership: Board Member and Treasurer for Girls on the Run since 2018, Chair of the Finance Committee and Member of the Fund Development Committee. Member of the MBA Council for Professional Women in Banking and Finance since its inception in 2012. Committee Member of the Frederick Health Development Council since 2018.
“I chose to volunteer with Girls on the Run of Mid and Western Maryland because I believe in their mission and values to inspire young girls to be both healthy and confident. I appreciate the critical life skills the organization teaches because I know how difficult it can be for young girls to face social peer pressures and build confidence in themselves at a young age. It has been inspiring to see the impact this program has had on young girls and how much they enjoy and take away from it. By serving in this volunteer leadership role, I hope to make a meaningful contribution to further the mission of the organization and encourage more young girls to join and embrace Girls on the Run.” – Jennifer Tyler
