We Tried CycleFit!

Go Local Workouts – a New Level of #goLocal

If you’ve been following FCB on Instagram or Facebook you probably know how much we love to #goLocal and support small businesses (see all our adventures). And after more than a year of celebrating local meals, snacks, cocktails, shopping, and entertainment we realized it was time to take it to the next level. GoLocal workouts.

Jenny Hogg and Stephanie Fitch from our HR and Marketing departments were ready for the challenge. They recently tried CycleFit Frederick and here’s a little about their experience.

We Tried Cyclefit...Here’s What Happened

“The person who invented the elevator, is a hero. At least that’s how I was feeling the day after our first CycleFit class. I was sore in ways I didn’t expect, my legs were stiff, my arms were stiff, but to be honest, I felt like I had conquered something.”

-Stephanie Fitch, Marketing

How did you hear about CycleFit?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: I’ve always wanted to try a cycling class and I’d been following CycleFit on Instagram for a while. When they posted a class pass sale I was ready to sign up.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: My role at the bank oversees our wellness program and when CycleFit first opened a coworker suggested possibly doing a wellness activity there. Ever since then, it’s always been in the back of my mind to try it out. Plus, it’s a great cold weather activity/workout.

What was your experience like?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: You sign up for a class online and when you show up they have your shoes waiting at the check-in desk. After a quick stop in the locker room, it’s into the arena to get your bike set up. The class is 50 minutes and the instructor will mix in high-intensity speed drills, hills, weights, and bands – after the class there’s an optional 10 minute quick abs workout. The first class was intense and I was definitely off the rhythm while trying to figure everything out. The second class I did much better and felt more comfortable.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: Well, it’s definitely an experience. The first class I took was a little more advanced than I was expecting - about 10 minutes into it I didn’t think I was going to last the other 40 minutes. But the instructors make the class fun and they are awesome at motivating everyone to keep going.

Did anything surprise you?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: I was surprised how long one song can feel! Just kidding. I was surprised how high the bike felt and how sore I was just from the seat the next day.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: I had an idea of what it would be like from watching videos, but I’ve never been clipped into a bike before so that was a little different.

What was your favorite part?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: I’d been doing a lot of home workouts so it was fun and motivating to be in a class setting where you’re pushing yourself to keep up with everyone. The music was booming, the energy was great, and it was a lot of fun to clear your head of everything except the workout.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: I really like that it isn’t just riding a bike and that each class and instructor is different. The instructors incorporate different moves, weights, and bands into each workout.

How did you feel after class?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: After the first class, I felt exhausted, a little defeated, but ready to try it again. After my second class, I was feeling more energy and excitement and like I had gotten the hang of what some of the moves were. In the days after the first class, I was pretty sore but after the second class I was fine.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: Wobbly. My first ride was very uncomfortable, but after doing some research on proper bike setup and trying out another class it was great. It was amazing how much energy I felt I had afterward.

What advice do you have for someone considering CycleFit?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: Sign up for at least 2 classes. The instructors are all unique and your ride is completely different depending on who is teaching the class. Our first ride was really high energy with a lot of popping up and down on the bike. Our second ride was more focused on speed and hill drills. The first class I was just trying to hang on and not quit but by the second class I felt more comfortable on the bike and I knew what to listen for during the ride. It was also a lot of fun to go with someone else who was new. If you can find a friend or coworker to go with it can keep you accountable and motivated.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: Take the 101 class or do a little bit of research first, so that you know how to set the bike up properly. I went in clueless and my first ride was uncomfortable. Also, read up on the lingo so that you can keep up with the instructor’s directions.

Who would you recommend CycleFit to?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: Anyone with a good attitude who wants to try it. You can adapt the moves for whatever your fitness level is so don’t feel intimidated that you won’t be able to keep up. There were people who rode hard the whole time and people who (like me) who had to take a break every now and then. You are in control of the resistance and the speed the whole time.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: I would say anyone who is interested in trying it out. It’s a lot of fun and a great workout.

Would you go back?

Stephanie Fitch

Stephanie: Absolutely! I’ve done 2 classes so far and would love to do more with different instructors. I saw they had a boy bands night and an 80s ride that both sounded like a lot of fun. I’m glad they have classes after work to fit my schedule.

Jenny Hogg

Jenny: I already have! And I plan to go back for some different classes (themed rides, etc.)
