FCB Earns Maryland Green Registry Member Status
At FCB we know a lot about green! Usually, we’re talking about money but this time we’re excited to announce that we have been accepted as a member of the Maryland Green Registry, an organization that promotes and recognizes sustainable practices. Check out just a few of the ways FCB goes green.
5 Ways FCB Goes Green
1. Cheers to Sustainable Hydration!
All our bank centers and our corporate office have filtered water available to clients and employees. Having chilled or hot filtered water makes it easy to stay hydrated while avoiding the waste of bottled water.
We also gave all our employees ceramic mugs to reduce the use of plastic and Styrofoam cups during coffee and lunch breaks, and offer guests in our community room the option of a mug in place of a disposable cup.
2. Reduce Paper Waste
From account statements to loan documents, meeting minutes to policies, banking and financial organizations often have a lot of documents. To help reduce our use of paper, we encourage our clients to switch to e-statements and have converted all our meeting documents to an online system.
What’s the Impact?
Since converting our meeting documents to electronic access in 2015, we’ve saved
443,292 pages and 53 trees
3. Shred Days = Less Paper in Landfills
Twice a year we host a free community shred day to provide Frederick with a convenient way to safely destroy documents. Every year this effort helps prevent at least 25,000 pounds of paper from going to the local landfill.
We also have shred bins at all our locations so that employees can securely destroy documents.
4. A Second Life
Whenever possible we like to find new homes or give a second life to items. In 2017 we hosted an “Empty The Storage Locker” day, where local nonprofits were invited to come shop for office furniture. The furniture had come from one of our recently renovated bank centers and we were happy to see it go to good use.
We also recently donated the FCB Business Courier Car to Second Chances Garage. When our car was ready to move on we knew we wanted it to go to a person or family in need. By donating the car to Second Chance Garage we were able to keep a great car on the road and help a local organization.
We send our ink cartridges and toners back for recycling or reuse, e-cycle old computers and hard drives, and encourage personal recycling in our break rooms by providing easily accessible recycling bins.
We believe that together we can have a big impact on protecting our environment. As we continue to refine our green practices we are excited to find new opportunities to grow our program.
